Some motherfucking bellwether

Just so you know, Abbey, I hold you personally responsible for the voting patterns of the entire state of Ohio, and anything that happens in the next four years is pretty much your fault.

If this post comes off as a little bitter and/or frustrated, it may be because I'm running on approx. 3 hours of sleep, thx to Colz [we spent quite a few hours lamenting the election via telefonadora last night] & physics homework.

I worked 14.5 hours at the polls yesterday, participating in the political process as a minority clerk. Explained the voting booths to people, helped them sign into the books, checked ID, etc. Exhausting but rewarding.

Somehow, despite the results of the three voting machines in Abington 9-2, Dubya managed to snag the electoral college as well as the popular vote, which is slightly incredible to me. And it appears America has voluntarily signed itself up for four more years of downward spiral.

Shame on you, America. Love yourself! End your abusive relationship. Self-inflicted wounds are a sign of low self-esteem [or a good way to win Purple Hearts, depending on whom you ask, though I generally don't]. You should try health class or something.

What really gets me are the people who are like:

I voted for Bush because God.
" " " " " abortion.
" " " " " moral values.
" " " " " integrity.
" " " " " cowboy hat.
" " " " " security.
" " " " " fags. [Yeah, Mississippi! How about that referendum on banning gay marriage? What was it, 99.9%?]

All of these things are much more important than oh, Soldiers Dying in Iraq, the Pitiful State of the Economy, and Tattered Foreign Alliances. No, those aren't things a good Christian should take into account when voting.

And of course you're safer from terrorism with Bush because when he says something, he means it and he'll stick to his guns. And don't forget those helpful color-coded alerts keeping you on your toes.

But you know, I try to stay positive [if dressing in all black falls under the 'positive' category].

I've retained that little shred of self-respect that comes from knowing Pennsylvania went blue.

And the local Democratic candidates for state rep. and Congress both won, so there's that.

And Lost is on tonight, so I can lose myself in my mind-numbing, teevee-watching, Wednesday-evening familiar routine and take comfort in punk-rock!Dom.

Vive la revolution!

And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree /
there will be an answer /
let it be.

I would love to see you work a pole for 14.5 hours. Also... umm, sorry to say you aren't a minorty even though you tried to be by dressing in all black. Just kidding, just venting my sadness through sexual innuendo and reverse racism. I love you still... though that pole idea.... :)

I think our phone call(s) were the best thing to come out of this election, aside from my looking hot and stylish in all black today.

When I was visiting Nina in Pittsburgh, we went to see Fahrenheit 9/11. Yeah, I know it's biased and it's liberal propaganda, but it's not fictitious. Nina and I sat and watched it, and we listened as people in the audience sobbed during the 9/11 scene. We heard people's gasps of righteous indignation when they saw Bush's ineptitude. We walked out of the theater with heavy hearts and solemn faces, and when I looked around, I noticed that everyone in the theatre shared our sentiments. I think it was then that I became most vehement about the need for a new president. Since that moment, I have been counting on America to see through Bush and vote against him. And now Election Day has passed, and we are stuck with W. for four more years, and I feel so disgustingly helpless that it makes my head hurt.

But then again, I probably would've voted for Bush because abortion.

hmm abortion? Great issue except it is intresting that abortions have gone way up since bush took office "http://www.beliefnet.com/boards/message_list.asp?boardID=452&discussionID=388591"

things just don't make sense to me. The fact that kerry won PA means that we did our part. But how could a single person vote for someone like this??
I don't know if the realized it but the guy who just won... it's the same guy that's been in office for the last 4 years. Things aren't going to change for the better however it is very possible that they can incresingly get worse. I've been living in this country for 16 full years and the country has been the worst i've ever seen it in the last 4 years.
Gay Marriage? How selfish can you be? I always thought religions to be accepting however it seems that you're discriminating a huge amount of people.
I can't stand how selfish people can be. I'm not saying everyone should be like me because I might be a little more extreame then most. If i really had to I would give up all my possesions all my money everything I had just to make a stranger truely happy. The result of this is worse then depressing worse the dissapointing. The world seems like it's comming to and end. I thought it would be over now but apparently is has only just begun.

All of these things are much more important than oh, Soldiers Dying in Iraq (Iraq is still safer than Washington DC! And it seems that he has a VERY high approval rating here in the military), the Pitiful State of the Economy (The GDP is up, Bush's win knocked the Dow up to 10,200 yesterday, and 5.4% unemployment compared to Clinton's 6.6% in the summer of 1994....hmm), and Tattered Foreign Alliances (Yes America, we did catch France and Germany and a few others getting paid over 10 BILLION in bribes to not authorize the use of force in a Iraq. But we're not goign to talk about the allies that recently have supported us--Pakistan comes to mind). No, those aren't things a good Christian should take into account when voting. (Good Christians just saved this country. Actually, a good Christian has been saving this country for the last 4 years.)

Dee you are a fool if you think Washington DC is safer than Iraq - not really helped by the loss of the assault weapons ban. The Economist magazine just predicted a significant drop in GDP for next year. Those employment figures in 94 were from Bush Sr.'s mishandling - you're forgetting that Unemployment was down below 4% during most of the Clinton years.
As far as alliances, fighting the War on Terror is a new type of transnational warfare that cannot be won in traditional means in state on state actions. We needs to work with our allies, share intelligence, and share responsibilities if the country is to be safer.

Dee said:

Dearest Allan,

You are right. I should not compare Washington DC to Iraq. Washington DC has far more civilians dying than Iraq does (I'm making a distinction between terrorists--insurgents you libs call 'em?--and civilians even though bin Laden is technically a civilian). We have soldiers who volunteered to sacrifice their lives if necessary for you. You libs are citing the most effecient war we have ever fought as being a Quagmire. It's ok Allan. I remember when Afghanistan was a Quagmire too.

Would you be refering to the Brady Bill that Bush said he would keep on the books if Congress could get it to his desk? The 'Assault Weapons Ban' that didn't ban Assault Weapons, put only the combination of flash hoods and folding stocks, among others--though you could have one of each. And then there's those damn 30 round clips THAT YOU COULD HAVE BOUGHT ANYWAY IF THEY WERE MADE PRE-BAN. Then let's talk about John Kerry's "Chinese Assualt Rifle" that's his favorite gun as mentioned in Outdoor Life? So Kerry is all about the ban, eh? Explain this

The Economist? *holds Tarot card to forhead* I predict that if the Economist was that good they would out sell the WSJ. Wait wait wait. The signal is all hazy. I'm getting interference from some drowned girl-friend from Chappaqitic....

So let me get this straight. The recession is gone by March of '91 and it's because Clinton fixed it. But half way into his term, it's Bush's fault that unemployment is so high. The Dot com boom was Clinton's doing. But the Dot-com bust was something else. And the long-gone recession in Bush 43's administration has nothing to do with 9/11. Nothing other than the fact that Bush knocked down the towers. I got ya Allan.

Work with Allies? Righto. So all of those bribed by Saddam are off the list. Roger that. Well--we'll excuse Russia because they've learned their lesson in Beslan, North Ossetia. As for sharing intelligence, you support the Italian gentleman (mobster) who was the "reliable source" about the Nigerian Uranium that was on the payroll of French Intelligence? Does that pass the global test?

The World is not safer because the World is full of people trying to kill us. Me more than you. And we are instead trying our darndest to kill them first. And that's why the World is not safer.

Allan said:

Dee, your rambling has made you look like a fool and saved me some time - for that I thank you. I'm sorry that you are delusional, however, and urge you to read your beloved WSJ more often (I read it everyday btw). Please respond to me by email, I'm not going to check for a response.
