August 2007 Archives

1 clacky has been nagging nonstop to get us to go to freshmen events.

2 i went grocery shopping [yum food] and had a freshman carry my groceries up to my room in exchange for showing her around bexley.

3 we went to the cambridge carnival and i ate an ice cream cone.

4 i left my atm card in an atm so i have to wait 5-7 days to get a new one. annoying.

5 it was so so so hot on saturday, so we went swimming at the gym.

my room is still wonderful and spacious. this morning rian said to lauren, "you're just going to let her prance around in her underwear like she owns the place?" and lauren said, "she owns half the place."

and as of 6pm today, i will be halfway done my pe credits. hooray for me.

my laundry is halfway done. [it's in the dryer]. and i have half eaten my veggie delite from subway.

that's about it.

i flew home tuesday. had dinner at vietnam with laura, tom et al.

on wednesday berry and i had the traditional panera meal, then i watched footloose at kt's with miriam et al.

friday was dinner with kt and marisa and then shopping & ice cream. i bought the most amazing dress at macy's for $9.99. allison says it looks like a dance recital costume, and she may be right. but i say silver sequins never go out of style!

on saturday the family went on a hike. my mom got her wallet stolen and we waded across the creek and there was much excitement all around.

OH MI GOD I LOVE HIKINGGGGGG !!!111 [you should see the self portrait from the end of the hike when it looks like i am about to die]

saturday night was miriam's garden tea party where i busted out my fabulous silvery dress.

on sunday i had breakfast [okay, lunch... it was noon and they were out of bagels] with miriam and allison, during which i admired the children's artwork on the walls of cosi and had a lot of internal fretting about my birth control. [it was the first day after my period and my alarm went off at 11:45 but we were already on our way to cosi, so i didn't take it until just past one. i don't think i'll get pregnant, though.]

today is monday and tomorrow i head back to mitty school!

first, friday night i saw more stars than i've ever seen in my life. we were on the cape and the sky was so clear. amazing!

saturday morning i moved! into my own huge room that i have all to myself while lauren is in canada [until tuesday, when she's coming back and i'm going home for the week]. as much as i am for the ideas of sharing and the earth belongs to everyone [too much pocahontas when i was little?], it's a wonderful feeling to be in charge of your own little space. i unpacked boxes and organized and rearranged and tidied to my heart's content. rian and i pushed the two beds together for a supermega!bed. i've been in a really good mood all weekend. i even sorted through all my clothes and have a full trash bag to give away. [although i still have too many clothes, but it's a start.]

my little eggy came back from scandinavia, which is also exciting. we watched mean girls last night which i thought i had seen too many times to still enjoy, but it was actually still funny.

and now for pictures from breakfast this morning:

my cacti

the one on the far right has not only survived being knocked out of the fourth floor window, but was dropped again with the other two when i was moving them into the new room. i'm such a bad cactus caretaker.

a week ago, when i had nothing better to do on a friday night than take online practice tests, i came across this post in the new york times blog. the accompanying article is pretty cool; it's a good idea to try to live as low impact a lifestyle as you can [although going into it with the purchase of two pairs of chloe boots? um...]. however, what really struck me was reading all the comments about what people would or could or wouldn't sacrifice for a more environmentally sound life.

and i decided i don't think i'm doing enough and it inspired me to try harder.

things i do
recycle [paper & plastic]
wash all my laundry on cold
walk/take public transportation [and bike!]
eat vegetarian [i try not to drink cow milk, but i haven't got over my cheese addiction yet]
unplug my cell phone charger when i'm not using it
shut down my laptop instead of leaving it on standby when i'm not using it [i've got better at this recently]
bring my own bag to the grocery store

things i'm interested in doing
buying locally
buying organic [i try to do this as much as i can, but sometimes my college student budget overrides it]
bringing my own container for takeout
air drying my clothes [maybe? i'm too impatient for this sometimes]
flushing selectively? [lauren might not allow this]
not buying bottled water [i don't do this very often, but sometimes i am thirsty and don't want juice or soda]
more!

i've added grist, worldchanging, and treehugger to my bookmarks so i can make this list longer.

i actually really like kimora lee simmons in this clip.

1 bought girly teal road bike off craigslist

as susan b anthony once said, "Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel...the picture of free, untrammelled womanhood."

2 argued with my boyfriend
3 attended the harvard summer pops band concert at the hatch shell and sat next to mrs leroy anderson
4 went grocery shopping at trader joe's
5 watched democratic youtube debate on the projector with klacky [and i have to say, i love hillary; i don't care what anyone says]
6 bought a needle that might be big enough to thread yarn through so i can continue work on my pom-pom curtain
7 made a pointless trip to the mall after which i reeked of abercrombie & fitch smell [klacky!] and had some shitty brownie batter "micro-blast" when all i really wanted was a fruit smoothie [why is it so hard for me to order what i actually want? am i just completely out of touch with myself?]
8 was peer pressured by clacky into taking a practice gre for some reason [on a friday night]
9 was inspired to be more environmentally conscious [more later]

some people i know hopped on the blogwagon.

i kind of ruined my entire day tuesday and almost all of wednesday due to some miscalculations monday night which resulted in vomiting and an achy tummy.

so i didn't get to do cycling on tuesday, but i went to exercise ball thingy yesterday with lauren, and hopefully by the end of this week i will have my first 2 PE points out of the way. if i do cycling tonight with my favorite fatty and two yogas tomorrow that makes 8 hours. cha ching!

also today i bought a ticket home for august 14. i'll be in pee-ay for a week, so mark your calendars!

hm. i guess my life is pretty boring right now.

i started drawing pictures with crayons. it's fun. rian has a box of SIXTY FOUR crayons that includes such important colors as timberwolf [in addition to silver and grey] and purple mountain's majesty. oh, crayola.

also i am sooooooo good at tetris attack. i've basically beat bowser on extra hard about infinity times now.

that is all.
